Czech-Slovak Competition of Student Animated Films

Money is a catalyst which exposes both human vices and virtues, but it is the unselfish deeds a person does that make him truly rich. The short animated film Life is Life tells a story of three people living on the edge of society, consumed by their own problems and blind to the real hardships of human life. On the other hand, it is also a story of humanism, honesty, kindness and a fair reward.

They meet and have a child…
The film makes you perceive the contact between the two people on three different levels. The aim of their doings needs to be cleared of all nonsense. They set on a journey to recover the meaning of their first encounter.
What they need to do is to embrace their child as something sacred. Both an eagle and a snake make an appearance as the ancient guardians of an egg, the symbol of life. They need to protect it with their lives be it on earth, under water, or in the air, the eagle representing the animus, the snake representing the anima.

The film tells a story about two lovers who have to overcome various obstacles life has in store for them. Despite all the obstacles, they manage to find true happiness at the end.

Avoidance … or what happens when the obstacle to overcome is at the same time the object of your desire.

The film about a strange mother and her son, who share a household, depicts their relationship and coexistence in the atmosphere of sadness and solitude. Mother is a film about obsession and emptiness and also about a secret, which surfaces at the end.

It is quiet an art to fail if you are a robot.

The film features a megabite who can see the world differently than others thanks to a virus-induced mistake. But before long the system fixes the mistake, cures him, and thus destroys not only his personality, but his world as a whole...

This original drama is set in an ordinary bathroom where the peace and tranquillity is constantly being spoilt by a hysterical wife and her estranged husband. The film follows the love story of two toothbrushes which culminates when the wife decides to leave the apartment for good taking one of the toothbrushes with her. Romeo and Juliette lightly comments on different views on human relationships impressively combining animated cartoon with rotoscoping.

In his film Ales Koudela, a young man with autism, presents the way he imagines film has evolved on the planet Earth and in the space, on the planet called Sex inhabited by Sexans. The film draws on Ales’ fascination by sexuality and human relationships which given his autism are sometimes very complicated for him to handle. 

„Women won’t stop thinking,

and we can show it here and now.
So let’s start drinking with love!”

The film features a young man, his cat and his computer with the background story depicting the clash between the nature and technology.

This fairytale set inGreenlandfollows one of many adventures of the bear called Brumlik and his best friend, the Inuit girl Animuk.

A woman is preparing for a reunion with her girl friends after 25 years. But everything seems to be going wrong. She can’t fix her hair, the children are bothering her, her husband is constantly in her way and the cat keeps destroying anything within his reach. And to cap it all, she is attacked by a furious bat!

Life can be tedious if you go through it alone. The film is about friendship and happiness which a rather unusual companion can bring to the life of an old lonely lady and thus change it forever. A match made in heaven...

But do not expect this film to give you an answer on how to deal with the trickiness of the modern life.
