The jury’s special mention in the International Competition of Short Films goes to a film that expresses, in a simple manner, the feelings we must confront when we have to deal with modern communications systems. It does so through a story that each of us has experienced at least once in our lifetimes.

The grand jury prize for International Competition of Feature Films for children goes to THE DAY OF THE CROWS ´s directed by JEAN-CHRISTOPHE DESSAINT. Set in a fantastical forest filled with animal spirits, the story promotes a message of love and tolerance without moralizing. The film suggest a fresh, exciting production design for hand-drawn animation that is inspired but not derivative of anime.
 
FILMS FOR GROWN-UPS

Consuming Spirits
director: Chris Sullivan, producer: Chris Sullivan (USA)
The grand jury prize for International Competition of Feature Films for grown-ups goes to CHRIS SULLIVAN debut animated feature CONSUMING SPIRITS. Sullivan exposes the seedy underbelly of rural America in his epic American Gothic tale. His from-the-guts filmmaking approach and intoxicating narrative rhythm holds the viewer's attention captive for the film's entire length. The gritty unpolished animation style combines a distinctive assortment of visual techniques including stop motion, drawn animation, and cut-out.

director: Don Hertzfeldt, producer: Bitter Films (USA)
The special jury mention for International Competition of Feature Films for grown-ups is presented to Don Hertzfeldt´s IT´S SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DAY. The jury appreciated the film´s sophisticated dramatic narrative in which a character confronts ilness and mortality with typical Hertzfeldian humor. Hertzfeldt´s maturing visual aesthetics combines his spare graphic approach while exploiting the possibilities of cinematic and animation language, through playful use of the frame, optical effects and live-action components.
