This year, the retrospective — the non-competition section of Anifilm — will commemorate two notable personalities of Czech animated film who departed from us last year — Břetislav Pojar and Vladimir Jiránek. The director and animator Břetislav Pojar was at the birth
of the of Bratři v triku studio and then worked for Studio Jiři Trnka for forty years. At the same time, he also spent many years creating for the National Film Board of Canada. We present a block of Pojar’s short films presenting Czechoslovakian filmmaking, as well as films made for NFB. The series Garden and The Butterfly Time, the combined feature film will not be missing either. Vaclav Bedřich, the director of popular bedtime stories, brought director and artist Vladimír Jiránek to film; the unforgettable Pat and Mat from the series And that’s it! or Bob a Bobek, Two Rabbits from a Magician’s Hat was the outcome of this cooperation. Jiránek cooperated with the Bratři v triku and AIF studios. During the presentation, we will also show his in- dependent films, including the film What did we do to the Hens, for which he won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale.
