A selection of several dozens of commercials, spots and jingles from the most prestigious European festival of animated films in Annecy from years 2012–2014. This showcase introduces the representatives of contemporary commercial animated cinema. It represents various technologies and artistic approaches chosen by the authors to impress the customers and consumers. Most of the authors have made the transition to 3D animation but there are still some hand-animated spots which have won the attention of the public with their quality and made it to the festival competition – for example classical puppet animation.

25 years of Czech animated commercials

Czech animated commercials underwent significant development after the Velvet Revolution and many studios and artists focusing on commissioned work entered the market. While it is hard to finance authorial films, commissions such as commercials, spots and jingles present certainties for the animators. Luckily for the viewers that are force-fed the commercials, the often renowned and established authors don't hesitate to insert their own graphic style and specific poetics into the commissioned work. Some animators accept commissions once or twice and then move on to something else, but there are authors that create whole series of commercials (Michal Žabka) and jingles (Noro Držiak). Our showcase includes spots by other famous authors and graphic artists – e.g. Jan Balej, Bára Dlouhá, Denisa Grimmová and Jaromír Plachý.
