In the Shadow of the Giant Dog – Anifilm to Award Jiří Šalamoun

Graphic Artist and illustrator Jiří Šalamoun celebrates his 82^nd birthday today. All the best from Anifilm! At the opening ceremony of this year’s Anifilm, Jiří Šalamoun will be presented with our Lifetime Achievement Award. His contribution to Czech animation may not be extensive, but thanks to the character of Maxipes Fík, he became an indisputable part of its history. As a graphic artist, Šalamoun collaborated on six short films for grown-ups. For instance his collaborations with Jiří Brdečka (Looove) and Václav Mergl (Little Cousins) are of exceptional quality. Both films were made in 1978, the same year as the popular “Fík” new year’s special Maxipes Fík Shoots a Film. Anifilm 2017 will screen all Šalamoun’s films and exhibit his “interventions” into live-action films represented by animated title sequences and posters.
