Wedding Day

Zuzana Čupová | Czech Republic | 2017 | 4 min | CS

This lively film revolves around a frenzied rhythm – both musical and visual. In a vortex of pulsating images, the author managed to portray a traditional Czech country wedding along with its folklore traditions. Using artistic shortcuts, allusions and successful metamorphoses, she depicts the atmosphere of absolute merriment accompanied by the tones of Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances.

Little Red Riding Hood

Martina Holcová | Czech Republic | 2017 | 5 min | CS

The Little Red Riding Hood of old was a good-natured and defenceless girl, but the wolf will certainly not get to the Little Red Riding Hood from this film. In this artistically distinct film, the hungry beast will eventually feast on things other than what we would have expected. This humorously altered (non)fairy-tale about visiting Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother is unforgettably narrated by Czech actor Ota Jirák.

Mukumu

Pavla Baštanová | Czech Republic | 2017 | 8 min

This Czech film full of northern melancholy depicts the flow of time somewhere on an island where a man constantly fights with nature and with himself. Jumping off a cliff, facing attacks of a predator and encountering seals are just ordinary things here. In a land where the wind blows constantly, a man cannot afford to be baffled by anything.

Our Street

Petra Fenďová | Czech Republic | 2017 | 3 min | CS

“… but I see a lot of positive things here,” says the protagonist of this colourfully economical anidoc from the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague about one of Prague’s frequented public places. In what’s more than just a social probe, we see the National Theatre piazzeta through the eyes of a local street paper seller.

WOO-HOO!

Dávid Štumpf | Czech Republic | 2018 | 7 min

Despite its title, this pixilated film portrays unsuccessful dating. The film’s main protagonist with a horse’s head uses an unconventional dating app reminiscent of old 8-bit games to help him find a soul mate. But even the best dating app cannot anticipate the reactions of the unicorns that we sometimes think we are.

Space Tramp

Ondřej Skalník | Czech Republic | 2017 | 4 min

A lonely space ship wanders through deep 3D black-and-white space. A fly-through through a group of planets in the shape of children’s toys exhausts its pilot and only passenger – a robot – so much that he turns on the autopilot. But what he doesn’t know is that in a part of space unknown to him lurks danger – a black hole.

Michaela Mihalyiova | Czech Republic | 2017 | 3 min | CS

Home sweet home, or what we do/don’t like about the places where we live. This anidoc works with authentic interviews with people from smaller as well as bigger towns and cities and colourfully animates their alter-egos who are no less real than their live counterparts.

Kovlad

Kateřina Čupová | Czech Republic | 2017 | 8 min | CS

Once upon a time there was girl for whom neither a loaf of peasant bread nor a lordly pie were expensive enough. Will her next suitor be good enough for her? And in what carriage will he come? Božena Němcová’s classical story deals with human pride and this animated version takes us all the way to the kingdom of the mysterious prince Kovlad.

After

Matouš Valchář | Czech Republic | 2018 | 6 min | CS

To live at the North Pole is hard enough even without your granny’s annoying chit-chat. For the protagonist of this flatly narrated film, encountering a polar bear means a possible redemption from the wretchedness of his earthly life. After all, his granny said that there's tons of food in heaven and you can stop giving a damn.

Insatiable

Linda Retterová | Czech Republic | 2017 | 6 min

In the original story, Otesánek eats what he sees – even people. But times are changing and his appetite has significantly increased. After he “ate his mummy, ate his daddy,” our puppet Otesánek sets out into the world (made almost exclusively from textile materials) to find something to eat. Will a big city survive the attack of this greedy guts?

Eliška Oz, Lee Oz | Czech Republic, Israel | 2017 | 7 min | EN

This stop-motion anidoc tells the story of a Czech-Israeli family whose unity is disrupted not only by airport security checks, but the main turning point is the illness of one of the family members. Animation of paper and hair, videos and authentic interviews bring us closer and closer to the family.

Racing Fever

Daniela Hýbnerová | Czech Republic | 2017 | 4 min

The unbearable thrill is escalated by the words of the broadcaster. Doping and merciless annihilation of your opponents is common practice in this sport – only the most cunning racer can win! Because there’s more at stake than you can see at first glance. This humorous film with an unexpected twist was made at the College and High School of Art of Václav Hollar in Prague.

The Cube

Tomáš Pavlíček | Czech Republic | 2017 | 11 min

This metaphorical film brings back universal values that can make even a weathered metal cube into a film protagonist. Other cubes, nice and clean, have out of fear of tyranny created a gargantuan sterile unit unable to accept any deviations. The establishment of a new order that is more inclined towards life seems obvious.
