CEE Animation Talents 2021

CEE Animation Talents is intended for the promotion and alternative distribution of the most talented young animation filmmakers from Central and Eastern Europe. The selection is each year made by festival directors from the CEE region (Olga Bobrowska, Pavel Horáček, Anna Ida Orosz, Igor Prassel, Ivana Sujová, Daniel Šuljić) and presented as a compilation at numerous animated film festivals around the world.
It presents the best films made by students and debuting artists in the given year to a professional audience and the general public. The film selection focuses on extraordinary talents whose work promises successful future careers. The project counts on the presentation of this film compilation at selected European animated film festivals to draw attention to new talents and bring them together with experienced international producers.

I’m Here

Julia Orlik | Poland | 2020 | 15 min

An elderly man looks after his paralysed wife. His daughter helps him, trying to balance the care with her work in a hospital and her family life. Everyone has a different view on how to properly care for the sick, which often causes arguments.  The film portrays the hopelessness of the end of a life with uncompromising authenticity.

Ant Hill

Marek Náprstek | Czech Republic | 2020 | 14 min

Ant Hill is the story of the end of humanity from the perspective of ants. Rebellious female K99980335 longs for a different future, as she loathes the monotonous, machine-like nature of the colony and its rules. But when her wish is suddenly and cruelly fulfilled it is too late to take it back. A cruelly humorous film with Marek Náprstek’s unmistakeable artistic style.

#polish_women_resistance

různí / various | Poland | 2020 | 8 min

An animated protest created by 49 animators in 48 hours as a response to the decision of The Consitutional Court about abortion ban in Poland.

Moved and broken by the situation in our country, we, a group of students from the Animation Department of Lodz Film School have decided to act. We strongly oppose the recent events in our country and it’s shameful that such a ruling has been pushed through during this extremely difficult time of pandemic. The Constitutional court has issued a ruling that will end legal termination of pregnancy for fetal anomaly. Many of us are afraid right now, this is why we want to express unity in a just cause.

Arka

Natko Stipanicev | Croatia | 2020 | 15 min

A parable on the demise of a civilisation that evolved into such perfection that its destruction is inevitable even though the passengers on a luxurious ship tirelessly try to convince themselves otherwise. What happens when people ignore all warning signs? This unusual CGI animated European film is nothing like classic American 3D films.

Bye Little Block!

Éva Darabos | Hungary | 2020 | 8 min

This surreal and dreamlike film is set at a housing estate much like those in the Czech Republic. We see the film’s protagonist at one of the many balconies in a moment when she has to say farewell to the seemingly boring place. The housing estate suddenly changes into an intimate setting with a unique charm.
