What feature films will Anifilm introduce in the competition?

This competition category will screen the meditative Latvian film Away by Gintis Zilbalodis who conceived it in the style of computer adventure. Directors Zabou Breitman and Eléa Gobbé-Mévellec will present their drama from Taliban-controlled Kabul The Swallows of Kabul – the film was praised at the Cannes IFF and won an award in Annecy. Japanese film On-Gaku: Our Sound by Kenji Iwaisawa tells a humorous story about a formation and disbandment of a non-traditional high school band. Hand-drawn Indian romantic film Bombay Rose by Gitanjali Rao was screened in Venice and won an award in Chicago. Romanian film Marona’s Fantastic Tale by Anca Damian explores dog love. Dogs also play an important role in Latvian film Jacob, Mimmi and the Talking Dogs and in the co-production family film Fritzi: A Revolutionary Tale taking place during the fall of the Berlin Wall. Animals also star in another praised film named The Bears’ Famous Invasion of Sicily in which a bear clan tries to rescue the son of their king. Along with mysterious old monkey and a young monkey boy, French directors Jean-François Laguionie and Xavier Picard will take us on The Prince’s Voyage and visually fantastic Japanese anime Children of the Sea by Ayumu Watanabe will tell us the story of a young girl exploring the secret of the world under water.
