Tunable Mimoid

Vladimir Todorovic | Australia | 2021 | 8 min

This video demonstrates the most recent research achievements of the Centre for Mimoid Studies (CMS). According to their recently published paper, scientists have discovered that tissue from an extraterrestrial organism (mimoid) regenerates after being exposed to the harmful effects of radiation. For the experiment, mimoid samples were cryogenically transported from Solaris to Earth.

1 MTH/MIN

Ethann Néon | Belgium | 2021 | 4 min

1 MTH/MIN is a reflection on space-time in cinematographic form. Each image represents a 24-hour scan taken each day from March 21 to June 21. Through the frame of a window, the landscape stages natural spring phenomena: the blossoming of trees, weather changes, the days lengthening until the summer solstice.

Hamartia

Marcos Montane | Argentina | 2021 | 6 min

Hamartia is a contemplation of the limits of the body, nothingness, sacrifice and asceticism. It explores the opposition between being and non-being. Hamartia is inspired by the awareness of the body during meditation. It takes symbolic elements from both Buddhism and Christianity.

Imaginary Landscapes

Mykyta Lyskov | Ukraine | 2021 | 5 min

At first glance, this fly-through of an imaginary landscape seems minimalist. But the passing layers of colours, lines, structures and image nuances gradually consume the viewer. Thanks to the soundtrack, the impression left by this semi-abstract film intensifies gradually. The film was made by a representative of the new generation of Ukrainian filmmakers, known for his film Deep Love.

O

Paul Wenninger | Austria, France | 2021 | 6 min

This hypnotic pixillated dance of the protagonist, who is also the film’s director takes place in an abandoned room of what was once an opulent mansion. The whirlwind speeds up and the furniture is getting dangerously close. What’s the relation between an isolated individual, his inner state of mind and the world behind the windows which, it seems, has entirely different rules?

I Want To Be Bored

Magda Kreps | United Kingdom | 2021 | 4 min

A hand-drawn film, visualising a wandering mind during the experience of doing absolutely nothing. The film is motivated by the desire for a break from constant distractions and endless to-do lists. When making the film, the author proceeded responsibly: “I started to schedule weekly moments of doing nothing, just sitting and recording passing thoughts, sensations and ambient sounds with a microphone.”

Concatenation 2 - Olympic Games

Donato Sansone | Italy | 2021 | 2 min

Chain reaction as a new Olympic sport. Acclaimed Italian experimenter Donato Sansone follows up on his film Concatenation with a sequel in which he concatenates professional athletes. Or at least recordings of their performances, which he turns into protagonists of his alluring animated manipulation.

Floating Memories

Se-young OK | South Korea | 2021 | 5 min

In this short film, images on transparent plastic sheets overlap – just like memories – in an impressive sequence. Thanks to simple animation tools, inconcrete planar drawings supplemented by realistic photographs by Eadweard Muybridge acquire depth (when sequenced).

Frozen Jumper

Tina Frank | Austria | 2020 | 7 min

A significant element of the formally daring film Frozen Jumper is formed by Peter Rehberg’s track of the same name. The Austrian director interprets it almost literally and uses motifs of film perforations. Their movement defines the precise rhythm of the soundtrack. Subsequently, the celluloid chimera dissolves in an admittedly digital visual.
