Just recently we have published the names of the films to compete in the International Competition of the upcoming edition of Anifilm. Now, when we also know the names of the games in competition, the time has come to reveal who will be picking the winners of these competitions. Most of our jury members take part in the festival’s accompanying programme in one way or another – whether with their films, lectures or other programmes. Every single one of these amazing personalities thus presents another reason why to visit this year’s Anifilm.

To help us explore the vast imaginative world of Japanese animation, we have invited curator Nobuaki Doi – film critic, renowned producer and the director of the renewed Hiroshima International Animation Festival.
His novel approach accentuates foreign influences which played a significant part in forming Japanese animation. What role was played by European avant-garde, Jiří Trnka and Jan Švankmajer? We will find out thanks to examples made by classics (e.g. Yôji Kuri, Osamu Tezuka) as well as contemporary animators (Atsushi Wada, Yoriko Mizushiri and others). We are honoured that we can explore this theme in collaboration with many truly distinguished guests. One of them is the legendary animator Kōji Yamamura who, in addition to his films (both for grown-ups and for children), will introduce his drawings at an exhibition prepared by Anifilm in collaboration with the Liberec Regional Gallery.
This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to animator Alfons Mensdorff-Pouilly. During his career spanning several decades, he worked on countless short films, series and feature films. Thanks to his superb animation skills, humour and kindness, he has become a sought-after colleague and a legend of domestic stop-motion animation.
