Czech Amateur Animation

For the first time in history, this year’s Anifilm will introduce the work of amateur animators. In several programme blocks composed by curator and film scholar Tomáš Hubáček, we will explore this parallel world existing outside the official structures in Czechoslovakia. You will have a chance to see rare films which were made in modest conditions but still managed to achieve success at international festivals of non-professional film. Thanks to this success, the makers of these films often became “professionals” working in the Krátký film Studio. But despite that, the field of amateur animation still remains largely unknown and overshadowed by official production. Some screenings will be accompanied by live music and the authentic experienced will be enhanced by using 16mm film copies!
