Feature Films Selected!

The wait is over. One of Anifilm’s most closely watched categories – the International Competition of Feature Films – finally reveals the names of competing films. The films in this category compete for two awards (Best Film for Adults and Best Film for Children). Just like in previous years, the category includes 10 competition films.
The competing films are diverse in terms of artistic styles and animation techniques. As usual, strong representation in our competition has French animation, this year with Chicken for Linda! (dir. Chiara Malta, Sébastien Laudenbach) and breathtaking homage to Hayao Miyazaki Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds (dir. Benoît Chieux). Fans of shipwreck stories can look forward to a British co-production film Kensuke’s Kingdom (dir. Kirk Hendry, Neil Boyle) and its poetic adventure story, while a special friendship will charm the audiences of this year’s Oscar nominee, Spanish-French film without dialogue Robot Dreams (dir. Pablo Berger). The Czech Republic, along with a distinct artistic style, is represented by the only puppet film in the feature film competition Tony, Shelley and the Magic Light by the designer of last year’s festival visual identity Filip Pošivač. The feature debut by the Italian master of hand-drawn animation Simone Massi Nowhere premiered at the Venice IFF. Similarly personal and formally rather unusual films are the Spanish title Tender Metalheads and the American indie film Unicorn Boy. On its way to Liberec is also Bill Plympton’s recently finished film Slide. A similar background has the interesting and narratively peculiar Canadian film When Adam Changes(dir. Joël Vaudreuil).
