Student and Short Films in Competition
Thanks to our Competition of Student Films, you will have a chance to see amazing student films made at film schools all over the world. This year, the competition includes 26 films predominantly from Europe, but also from Japan, China and USA. Czech filmmaking is represented by remarkable films made by directors with foreign origins – Between City (Ilya Kreines) from the Academy of Arts, Architecture & Design in Prague, Keep Out (Tan-Lui Chan) from the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Arts and FAMU’s Electra by Daria Kascheeva.
Anifilm visitors can also explore the amazing world of animated styles, genres, themes and techniques in the Competition of Short Films with 28 competing entries. Anifilm will present new films by renowned artists such as Nina Gantz, Kaspar Jancis, Tomek Popakul, Georges Schwizgebel, Flóra Anna Buda and Don Hertzfeldt. But the competition includes also films by other amazing directors and we can’t wait to share them with you.
Competitions of Music Videos and Abstract and Non-narrative Animation
Another competition section we can reveal is the Competition of Music Videos. This year’s 23 competing music videos vary not only in visuals but also in musical styles, so there will be no dull moments watching them. They represent a wide range of genres from classical music to hip hop to punk and there are also humorous and parodic entries. Czech music videos are represented by a gentle music video by Michaela Dušková titled A tak to necháme and obscure Lunapark by Matej Mihályi.
Extraordinary cinema experience will undoubtedly await visitors who will decide to check out our Competition of Abstract and Non-narrative Aanimation. This year, the selection committee picked 22 competing films. Just like in the past, the competition contrasts traditional 'old school' techniques and super hi-tech digital production and mechanically cold abstract compositions and natural motifs. There are also two Czech irons in the fire: Individuality (Bára Holzknechtová) – an associative study based on a continuous stream of seemingly unrelated photographs – and ambitious project using artificial intelligence Time Metallurgist (Tomáš Rampula) inspired by the life of Eadweard Muybridge.
